Hi folks, John Yarmuth here.
For the past 15 years, I’ve had the honor of representing Kentucky’s 3rd Congressional District. During that time, I’ve done everything in my power to faithfully serve the people of Louisville, and I’m extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish together. As most of you know, I recently announced that I am retiring from Congress. This term will be my last, and I want to ensure that Louisville continues to have a strong, responsive, effective leader in Congress.
That’s why I’m endorsing Morgan McGarvey in his campaign to represent Kentucky’s 3rd Congressional District.
I’m going to tell you exactly why I think Morgan is the person we need representing Louisville in Congress.
Morgan looked like a kid when he got to Frankfort ten years ago, but he quickly established himself as a shrewd legislator, setting Kentucky's record for most bills passed by a freshman in the minority, and rising to the position of Leader at lightning speed. As leader of the Senate Democrats, he's led an unabashedly progressive agenda that would benefit every Kentucky family.
Most importantly, he has shown an ability to build and work in the diverse coalitions necessary to create meaningful change and get the job done for our community and country. I have seen him work across the aisle to pass legislation to benefit babies born prematurely, protect victims of domestic violence and human trafficking, fund Kentucky’s HBCUs, and defend marriage equality. I’ve also seen him stand firm against Republican attacks against workers and organized labor, Kentucky’s public education system, and reproductive rights.
I normally don’t endorse in primaries, but after more than 15 years of serving the people of Louisville, listening to your concerns and fighting for your priorities, it is my obligation to do my part to ensure your representation in Washington remains as strong as possible. And Louisville could have no greater champion than Morgan McGarvey.
Morgan has shown, through not only his words but his actions, that he is willing to go to bat for Louisville's hardworking families every single day. He has my full support, and I’m proud to stand beside him in the fight for Kentucky’s future. I ask that you join me in supporting Morgan with your vote on May 17, and – if you are able – with a contribution to his campaign today.
I know that Kentucky’s 3rd Congressional District will be in good hands with Morgan, and I hope we can count on you during this campaign.
Thank you,
John Yarmuth
