Last week, I joined faith and civic leaders from across the country to have a critical conversation with the White House in regards to the upcoming Supreme Court nomination. In the wake of Justice Stephen Breyer's retirement announcement, President Joe Biden has his first chance to fill a seat on the Supreme Court.

During the March 2020 Democratic presidential debate in Washington, DC, President Biden announced that he would appoint the first Black woman to the court. "It's required that they have representation now - it's long overdue," he said.

Emgage supports President Biden‘s decision to nominate the first African American woman to fill the SCOTUS seat.

In the last five years, we have seen the impacts of Supreme Court decisions. Representation matters and this nomination is of the utmost importance. In 2018, the nation witnessed in a 5-4 ruling the Supreme Court upholding the Muslim Ban. Our community deeply understands the importance one vote can make, which is why this nomination carries tremendous weight and significance.

From voter protections to redistricting to ensuring no Muslim Ban happens again, all eyes will be on the Supreme Court nomination. The Biden Administration plans to release their nominations later this month, and we will continue to provide key updates.
