John, corporate special interests have spent the last year arguing that federal aid for the middle class will stifle economic growth. They have been lying.

This past week, new data showed that our economy added over 1.5 million jobs in the last three months. There's no question that our country is on the move, and it's in large part due to the American Rescue Plan -- legislation that I and other progressives in Congress fought to ensure was a comprehensive investment that lifted up everyone who was struggling in the wake of the pandemic. We do not need to have a false choice between growing our economy and helping those in need.

So on the heels of this week's news, we must recommit to doing even more. It's time to expand child care and paid family leave, lower the cost of housing, and build a green economy for the future. This bill will significantly help the middle class and put more money in everyone's pockets -- continuing the same formula that's driven the job and economic growth of the last year.

If we expand universal child care and tax credits, our nation's kids will receive quality care while parents can go back to work. If we expand paid family leave, more people can take time off to care for loved ones. If we make corporations pay their fair share in taxes, we'll ease the burden on middle-class families. And if we make record investments in clean and renewable energy, we'll set the course for preserving a livable plan.
