Friend, On Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, bomb threats were made to nearly 20 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) — an abhorrent act of hate that sought to impede the learning and physical well-being of students of color. In response to the threats, the SPLC will be leading a virtual roundtable tomorrow with some of the nation’s leading HBCU presidents, as well as a U.S. Department of Education official, discussing the impact of the threats and how HBCUs are planning for the future. America’s HBCUs Under the Threat of Attack The conversation will be moderated by Lecia Brooks, SPLC chief of staff and culture, and include as featured guests:
HBCUs are among our nation’s most trusted institutions of higher education – a safe space where many students of color choose to not only advance their education but also to embrace and enjoy their shared experiences and rich culture. These students are our nation’s future, and we must make every effort to ensure their safety and protection. What happened last week to these HBCUs is cause for alarm and action. We hope you can join us for this important and timely discussion. To learn more and RSVP, please click here. In solidarity, Your friends at the Southern Poverty Law Center |
