The Legislature has been back in session only a few weeks but it didn’t take long for Senator Anthony Portantino to take a hatchet to the privacy rights of California’s gun owners. Master of legislative overkill, he introduced a bill last week that would mandate every public school parent to disclose to their kid’s school whether there are any guns in the home – and how they are stored. Portantino must think the way to solve the problem of school shootings is to treat EVERY kid like a potential mass shooter by forcing their parents to reveal information that is none of their damn business. Read the text of this outrageous bill HERE. GOC will be tracking this and other bad bills that have come up (yes, the anti-gun Left is at it big time) – stay tuned to our legislative alerts!
In other California news, GOC has been closely following the City of San Jose’s move to mandate that every gun owner purchase liability insurance and pay a yet-to-be-determined fee to fund so-called “violence reduction initiatives.” A preliminary vote was taken last month (which passed) and the final vote is scheduled for tomorrow, February 8. The public comment has been overwhelmingly in opposition to the ordinance and although we fully expect the City Council to approve this unconstitutional measure, we still want city leaders to hear from the 2A community. Being silent is not an option and legal challenges are in the works! Send an email to [email protected]. And check it out – LA has jumped on the insurance liability bandwagon – read more below.
And in some good news, one of the worst bills introduced last year is officially dead. Read about it HERE in GOC’s latest blog piece Gavel Slammed Down and Gun Tax Bill Dies.
