In a stunning move this past Friday at their annual meeting, the Republican National Committee (RNC) passed a resolution condemning Representatives Kinzinger and Cheney for their participation in the House Select Committee on the January 6 attack ... and referring to the events of that tragic day as “legitimate political discourse.”[1]
Just let that sink in for a moment.
A deadly attack and violent seizure of our nation’s seat of government is NOT legitimate political discourse – it's a crime.
Submitting false slates of electors to Congress, including forged state seals, is not legitimate political discourse – it's a crime.
Pressuring and threatening a state election official to “find” 11,780 nonexistent votes in order to reverse the outcome of an election is not legitimate political discourse – that’s also a crime.
If there were any lingering questions that the Far Right and the Trumpian Big Lie now have full control over the entire Republican Party, this resolution has completely dispelled those questions. The official, national-level Republican party apparatus is describing an attempted coup and deadly insurrection as mere political expression.
