Get help with household food and energy bills

money

I?m pleased to announce that we are extending the scheme we offered in December to provide extra financial support for food and heating this winter. People who receive Council Tax Support can apply for:

* Supermarket e-vouchers (one ?50 voucher)
* Energy bill e-vouchers (two ?49 vouchers worth ?98)

The City Council has secured the funds from the Government?s Household Support Grant. As in December, there are a limited number of supermarket and energy bill e-vouchers that will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. People who successfully applied for a ?49 energy voucher in December will automatically get another ?49 voucher in this round of applications and need not apply again. People who received the supermarket vouchers in December are welcome to apply again this time.

The Household Support Grant is a welcome relief. No one in Nottingham should have to choose between heating and eating. These e-vouchers will help Nottingham residents and families to keep the heating on and put food on their tables.

Supermarket Vouchers and Holiday Activities

Father with child

We understand how hard things are for people in Nottingham and we?re determined to help in every way that we can. Last week?s announcement on energy price increases comes only a few months after the Government?s scrapping of the ?20 Universal Credit uplift and, with weekly food shops also costing more now, hard-working households across the city are really struggling. I?m therefore really pleased that we?ve announced today ?1.8m of funding to support some of the city?s most vulnerable families.

We?ll again be providing free holiday activity clubs and ?15-per-week supermarket vouchers for all pupils who receive free school meals. This will run across the Easter, summer, October half-term and Christmas holidays and, with around 15,000 eligible children in Nottingham, we hope it will be a real lifeline.

Light Night

Light night

It was wonderful to see families out enjoying the city after dark for Light Night on Friday and Saturday. In spite of the weather, people really enjoyed visiting the many free attractions and activities on offer. Thousands of people flocked to see the amazing light show at St Mary?s Church and Sneinton Market and many were also thrilled by the Fire Garden in the grounds of Nottingham Castle with the bonus of wonderful views of the city lights from the terrace. There was also a great atmosphere in Old Market Square with people visiting Rebel Heart and then moving up to Trinity Square to enjoy the local choirs and other musical performances. If you couldn?t make it this year, there is a short wrap up video [ [link removed] ] of pictures from the event.

We?d really like to thank Nottingham BID for their sponsorship to support this event as well as The Welcome Back Fund and the Arts Council. If you would like to feed back on the event, please complete our online survey [ [link removed] ] which is open until Friday 18 February.

And finally?

Finally, I spent my Sunday afternoon delivering leaflets to residents of Trent Basin speaking to residents, butheard the roar from the City Ground as Forest continued their triumphant journey in this year?s FA Cup. What a remarkable result and on to the next round!
