Jeff Bezos founded and then ran Amazon for more than two decades. We don't need to remind you everything that's happened during Bezos's tenure and continues to this day. Bezos built an empire on the backs of exploited workers, preventing those workers from forming unions, contracting with the military, and even partnering with police departments to use Amazon's Ring cameras to search for Black Lives Matter activists.
We don't need Bezos's legacy anywhere close to Dr. King's.
Tell the DC Public Library Board of Trustees to REJECT the Jeff Bezos Auditorium at the MLK Library!
As we send you this email, workers at the Amazon facility in Bessemer, Alabama are voting for a second time whether to organize the first union at an Amazon warehouse in the United States. Last year, Amazon pulled out every trick in an effort to bust the organizing effort and as a result the National Labor Relations Board ordered a new election. That has Amazon has not stopped its union-busting.
Is this the legacy we want tied to the MLK Library in Washington, D.C.? NO! Join with Jobs With Justice, Athena, and others as let the DC Public Library Board of Trustees know that Jeff Bezos's name on the MLK Library is unacceptable.
Thank you for everything you do. We could not hold the powerful accountable with you.
In Solidarity,
Joel
