Thank you very much for your support. You helped us reach our goal last by contributing more than the $552 we needed last Monday night. I am very grateful--thank you notes for each and every person that contributed are on the way.
On Wednesday this past week, Brooke and I spoke before the Arlington Democrats to kickoff our campaign. The button above includes the 6 minutes of our remarks. Please click above or go to this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xWCOBegdueDOkj6isbSXBmABBedRt13P/view to take a look at where I think Arlington is and why I am seeking to continue the work.
Speaking of the work, it continues with urgency: this past Tuesday an inmate passed away in our jail. An investigation is ongoing--it is not yet clear what the precise cause of death was--the inmate was found unresponsive in his cell shortly after a medical check. What is clear: we have lost six inmates in our jail over the past seven years. While investigators will ultimately determine the facts, all of us in leadership positions must commit to exploring all options to ensure the health and safety of every individual in our care.
Last year, we changed medical providers to better serve inmates. We must continue examining and considering any additional steps that can be taken to protect those in our care.
With respect for the work that must be done on criminal justice reform,
Matt
