As we celebrate Black History Month I want to tell you a little about my history:

I’m a 7th generation South Carolinian and the daughter of a public school teacher. My family is just like any other. We laugh together, love each other, and tell stories to remember our history.

I remember hearing stories about the way my family founded a business in Bennettsville that still stands today. My family’s history and support helped grow me into someone who deeply values my home.

I’m running for Governor of South Carolina because I believe our future can be brighter than our history. I want my sons to build families here, to pass on stories and our shared history. I want this state to be a place where we can continue to flourish — a place to be proud of.

South Carolina has never had a Black woman Governor, but I knew when we started this campaign that we could make history. That’s a responsibility I cherish, but I’m not just running for Governor to make history — I’m running to make a difference.
