Veterans have sacrificed so much to protect our country and democracy. But many veterans face additional battles when they come home – mental health struggles, PTSD, economic challenges, housing insecurity, and access to high-quality health care.

No one who has bravely served our country should have to worry about having a safe place to live or accessible, high-quality health care, but that's the reality for far too many veterans. Derek is committed to serving our veterans and has been leading the charge in Congress to ensure our veterans have the support they need.

Last month, he introduced the Planning for Aging Veterans Act to ensure older veterans can live a life with dignity and get the high-quality health care they deserve. Derek also introduced legislation to create new, transitional housing for veterans experiencing homelessness.

Every veteran should be able to live with dignity. Period.

Last month, the House passed two bipartisan bills geared toward supporting our veterans. Derek helped pass a bill that will ensure eligible service members are automatically enrolled in health care during their transition out of the military. And he proudly voted for the Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act to make sure every day spent in uniform — including training days — counts toward vital GI Bill benefits.
