Hi friend — February is Black History Month.

This month, while we honor the achievements of Black Americans throughout
history in the face of tremendous adversity, we must also recognize that
some are trying to prevent this history from being taught.

Just this week, Alabama Superintendent Eric Mackey reported that he has
received numerous complaints from individuals trying to have Black History
Month lessons removed from the state’s public school curriculum.

And across the country, right-wing legislators are creating false panic
about Critical Race Theory — which is simply the idea that our country’s
institutions have contributed to racism throughout history. This is
censorship, plain and simple, and we can’t let it happen.

So this Black History Month, we must commit to fighting back against
Republican attempts to suppress the truth about the ways that our
country’s institutions have perpetuated racism. We can not dismantle
racism if our children don’t know the truth about the systems that
perpetuate it.

Thank you for reading.

In solidarity,
Alessandra
