John,
We knew that we had a tough fight ahead of us when we recruited five working-class organizers to run against powerful, well-funded opponents.
Unfortunately, FEC numbers were just released and it’s looking like the fight got tougher for our Justice Democrats slate. While our slate is supported by grassroots small-dollar donors, corporate Democrats strengthened their campaign war chests with contributions from the oil and gas industry, Wall Street, and Big Pharma.
“Cash on hand” is how much money a campaign actually has in the bank, and is a significant indicator of a campaign's chance at winning. We’re up against incumbents with massive campaign war chests, but we also have a track record of defeating corporate-backed Democrats, despite being outspent and outraised.
In 2018, we recruited Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to run for Congress and built her campaign from scratch. She won, despite corporate machine incumbent Joe Crowley having millions of dollars in cash on hand, and two years later we did it again. Now we’re aiming to help our slate of progressive candidates each take on the establishment and win in 2022.
Help us continue to fight to elect game-changing candidates who will work for our values in Congress by contributing $3 today. Unlike the incumbents we’re up against, we don’t take a single dollar from corporate PACs.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
