Dear John,
Our thoughts today are in Israel, where millions of Israelis are huddled in bomb shelters due to the ongoing rocket onslaught from terrorist groups in Gaza. We will continue to stand with the people of Israel and steadfastly advocate for Israel’s right to defend itself. For breaking information, please follow our updates on Facebook [link removed] and Twitter [link removed].
Here in America, however, we are grappling with the latest statistics on antisemitic hate crimes.
Hours ago, the FBI issued its annual report on hate crimes in the United States. Jews remain, by far, the most targeted religious group in the country, the victims of over 57% of all religious hate despite comprising less than 2% of the U.S. population. The deep discomfort [link removed] that American Jews have been feeling for the past few years is again backed by cold, hard facts.
We cannot allow this to be the new normal. We must respond with more than words.
Today we are proud to announce the launch of Translate Hate [link removed], an innovative digital resource that enables Americans of all backgrounds to expose antisemitic tropes and take action against them.
Translate Hate takes the form of a glossary of antisemitic tropes and expressions that will help you and others identify antisemitism when you see it. And once you recognize it, you can become part of AJC’s global effort to fight it.
Here’s what you can do now:
First, bookmark AJC.org/TranslateHate [link removed].
Second, we need all Americans to know about this critical resource. Use the Share buttons on the website to spread the word to your family, friends, and colleagues.
Third, and most important, use the Translate Hate glossary [link removed] to speak out when you encounter antisemitism online or in person. Let us and others know you’re doing so by using the hashtag #TranslateHate.
If history teaches us one thing about antisemitism, it is that we cannot be silent.
If you would like to get involved with AJC where you live and start fighting antisemitism in your community and across our nation, please reply to this email or go to AJC.org/globaloffices [link removed] to contact an AJC office near you.
It starts with you and me. If we work together, we can turn back the tide of rising antisemitism in America.
Sincerely,
Dan Elbaum
AJC Chief Advocacy Officer
