John —
In 1995, Michael Monroe — a Vietnam War veteran, restaurant owner, and father — was wrongly convicted of the murder of his mother-in-law in Nashua, New Hampshire.
Just two weeks ago, after 27 years in prison, Michael was finally freed and reunited with his family. The New Hampshire Parole Board decided to release him after hearing compelling arguments on his declining health, exemplary disciplinary history, and tremendous familial support.
Michael has suffered tremendously from illness while incarcerated. He’s been diagnosed with cancer, contracted COVID-19, and subsequently suffered a heart attack requiring surgery. In October 2021, doctors gave Michael three to six months to live.
Michael is spending as much time as he can with his nine grandchildren and his wife of nearly 53 years, who has stood by his side throughout his decades of imprisonment.

The Innocence Project continues to fight to overturn Michael’s wrongful conviction. Michael hopes to live to see justice for his beloved mother-in-law and to see his name cleared.
But in the meantime, Michael needs your help — his age and declining health prevent him from working. He uses a wheelchair and we want to raise enough money to help him be comfortable and take care of his medical needs. Can you donate right now to Michael’s MightyCause?
We’re not going to stop fighting for Michael’s full exoneration, and we’re so grateful to have you by our side.
With gratitude,
— The Innocence Project Team
