Team,

The national Republican Party just showed us exactly how far they’ve fallen.

Yesterday, they voted to censure members of their party involved with the January 6th investigation, calling it a “persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.” The statement failed to mention that this “legitimate political discourse” left seven people dead.

The most maddening part of all of this is that, as they were happening, the events of January 6th were abhorrent to the leaders of the Republican Party. That very day, the RNC put out a statement “strongly” condemning the violence, making clear that the scenes “ do not represent patriotic acts, but an attack on our country and its founding principles.”

That was the truth. And they were telling it. Today, it no longer matters what’s true to the RNC. All that matters is what’s helpful or harmful to them politically.

Look, I understand that’s a pretty heavy thing to wrestle with while you’re trying to enjoy your weekend. So let me leave with you how I see us getting out of this mess.

It starts with taking the fight to the members of Congress who’ve encouraged this behavior. And we need to end their careers and we need to do it at the ballot box—voters must reject this anti-Constitution, pro-violence brand of politics taking over one of our political parties. We need to prove that there are real consequences that come with aiding and abetting an insurrection.

So that’s exactly what we’re going to do — starting with this fall’s election. We’re taking on members of the Sedition Caucus in Congress, and I’d say that today’s a great day to support that mission — will you make a donation right now? [[link removed]]

Desperate maneuvers to rewrite history are an astounding thing to witness. The first thing I did was remind myself that there are a whole lot of us who aren’t going to let them get away with it.

Thanks for being part of that fight,
Amy
