You may know me as the woman you’ve seen use a whiteboard to hold Big Bank CEOs and sleepy Trump administration officials accountable (I am proud to be what pops up when you search ‘woman with whiteboard’).
But the whiteboard isn’t just for fun. It’s an effective tool for clearly and efficiently spelling out problems, and it helps bring attention to the issues facing American families. I use it because as a member of Congress, a key part of my job is working to restore people’s faith in our government, and that means talking about the issues that families are dealing with and holding the powerful accountable.
I know restoring faith in Congress is no easy task—Congress is about as popular as a cockroach. But I hope that by using congressional hearings to advocate for working people, my constituents know someone is fighting for them. That’s critical for our democracy.
People on both sides of the aisle share the blame for people’s lack of trust in Congress. Americans can see that too many politicians are beholden to corporate donors and lobbyists. That’s why I’ve never taken money from corporate PACs, and why I’ve taken my pledge a step further and don’t accept money from lobbyists or executives at Wall Street Banks, Big Pharma, or Big Oil companies.
