CTV is partnering with Let MI Kids Learn to support two upcoming Legislative Initiative Petitions designed to put power back into the hands of Michigan parents. Watch the launch video here. Here's How It Works: Citizens like you sign petitions to make a law that the governor can't veto. First, we need to collect about 500,000 signatures for the Board of Canvassers will to validate. The petition will then go to the state Legislature, who can choose to immediately adopt the law or put the question on the ballot for the people to vote on. There are two petitions that work together to establish meaningful education reform: The first petition creates a new Student Opportunity Scholarship. These scholarships could pay for educational expenses, including everything from extra tutoring to tuition at a private school. This opens up more options for parents and students than ever before and means that a student's opportunity is not limited by family finances. The second petition funds these scholarships by giving tax credits to individuals and companies who make contributions to the scholarship-granting organizations. This unique solution means that parents can embrace educational alternatives without harming local school budgets or raising taxes.
