John,
February is Black History Month, where we pay tribute to the history and achievements of Black Americans. It has never been more important to learn and reflect on the importance of Black history throughout our nation.
While our country has made tremendous progress in striving for equality, we must not forget to engage with our history to help us give context for the present. This year’s Black History Month theme is “Black Health and Wellness” to highlight the legacy of Black contributors in Western medicine as well as to examine how our healthcare system is affecting everyday Americans.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “Those who look for the bad in people will surely find it.”. I hope that we take this time to set our differences behind and reimagine what possibilities lie ahead when we work collectively.
This February, I want you to join me in remembering those who have shaped Black history and the important work they have done to better our nation. Black history is American history.
Onward,
Mike Thompson |
