The bridge collapse in Pittsburgh last week is yet another reminder of how important strong infrastructure is. Currently, Pennsylvania is ranked second in the country for bridges in bad shape, and bridge repairs are long overdue. 

Thankfully, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that I supported will bring $1.64 billion in support back to the Commonwealth. These federal funds will allow the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to advance projects that had previously been delayed because of funding. 

It’s important to continue to be prepared for winter weather, from stocking your kit with extra food and water to having a family plan.

If you're getting out the space heater for extra warmth, make sure you're staying safe: 

• Keep flammable materials at least three feet away from space heaters
• Always plug space heaters directly into a wall outlet, never into a power strip

If you’ll be traveling during the remainder of this winter season, it’s important to plan your travel with winter weather considerations in mind. Make sure to keep your NOAA Weather Radio in your kit to receive broadcast alerts and warnings directly from the National Weather System. You may also sign up in advance to receive notifications from your local emergency services.

At-Home COVID Test Options

This week, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that people in either Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage will be able to get over-the-counter COVID-19 tests at no cost starting in early spring. Under the new initiative, Medicare beneficiaries will be able to access up to eight over-the-counter COVID-19 tests per month for free. 

Call 1-800-Medicare with questions about where to find a test. Every household can also request four at-home tests for home delivery for free at covidtests.gov.
