Climate change is already here, and we need to act. I’m proud to have the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, which just endorsed our campaign this week.

Welch for Vermont

Hello,

I’ve lived in Vermont for over 40 years, and each home has been on a dirt road.

When I want to go hiking, or now, in the winter, cross-country skiing, all I have to do is step outside my door. It’s one of the best parts about living in Vermont — how easy it is to enjoy the scenery and breathe the fresh air.

And I know Vermonters across the state are environmentally conscious. We want to preserve the nature that surrounds us for our kids, grandkids, and all future Vermonters.

Climate change is here, and we feel the effects with each passing month. This past December was our warmest December ever on record. This January was the coldest January on record. Floods and droughts are now Vermont’s most likely natural disasters, and expected to increase. A warming climate means the Vermont ski season could be shortened by as much as one month if we don’t curb emissions in the next few years. Lake Champlain temperatures increased between 2°F and 7°F, and with it the increase in algae blooms and beach closures.

These changes may seem small, but droughts and floods have an extreme impact on the future of our farms and towns. Beach closures at Lake Champlain are already impacting our ability to enjoy Vermont’s natural resources, and a shorter ski season will take a significant toll on our economy. Climate change affects us all, which is why we need to take collective action.

If you’re ready to enact a Green New Deal and do everything we can to protect our earth for generations to come, add your name right away.

I’m proud to fight for a Green New Deal in Congress — we need to make bold, systemic changes to work to combat climate change. That’s why I’m proud to have the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, which just endorsed our campaign this week. They understand the urgency of building a clean energy future, and I know that together we can get this done for Vermonters and folks across the country.

It’s clear we don’t have the luxury of time on our side — and protecting our climate for generations to come is one of the most urgent challenges we face. It’s why I’m running for Senate, but I can’t do this alone.

Add your name to say you’re in this fight for a Green New Deal, and let’s work together to make it happen.

Thanks for taking action,

Peter
