Team,
February marks Black History Month, when we as a nation celebrate generations of Black Americans whose patriotism and courage have enriched our communities and strengthened our democracy.
This is a special time to celebrate the innumerable contributions of Black Americans to both Ohio and the nation. We ponder progress made and gain inspiration for the work that remains.
We recommit this month and always to justice, equality, and unity in fulfillment of the American Dream for ALL.
Each of us in our own way can honor the words of Lorain, Ohio’s native daughter Toni Morrison, who wrote, “the function of freedom is to free someone else.”
This Black History Month, we join all Americans to lift up the innumerable contributions, beautiful legacy, and bright future of the Black community and to continue our work to heal the wounds of all our brethren.
Sincerely,
-- Marcy Kaptur
