Under the Trump/Kushner model, so-called Direct Contracting Entities (DCEs) are paid monthly by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to cover a specified portion of a patient's medical care—a significant shift from traditional Medicare's direct reimbursement of providers.
While President Biden continues to push Congress for action on lowering prescription drug prices and voting rights, this is something the Biden administration has the power to stop without needing approval from Senators Manchin or Sinema.
This insidious attack on Medicare allows these Direct Contracting Entities to insert themselves between doctors and patients, and use our Medicare dollars to pad their profits.
Seniors value traditional Medicare because it is simple, efficient, and universal. Right now, these changes are happening at a small scale, but the program is set to expand this year unless President Biden takes action to stop it.
