Team,

One-sixth of the U.S population live in economically distressed communities where workers experience significantly higher unemployment rates than the national average. For too long, these communities have been left behind – and they’ve lacked the help they need to create jobs. As a consequence, economic opportunity – for too many Americans – depends upon their zip code.

That's why today, Derek joined the Democratic House majority in forwarding legislation that will create more economic opportunity for more people in more places. The House just passed the America Competes Act of 2022 to ensure our economy stays competitive globally, and it includes a pilot version of Derek's bipartisan RECOMPETE Act in the legislation.

Derek's Recompete Pilot Program will provide distressed local labor markets, local communities, and Tribal governments with flexible grants to develop and implement 10-year economic development plans to increase economic development and create jobs.

As someone who grew up on the Olympic Peninsula, Derek is committed to making our economy work for working people and ensuring people have access to good-paying jobs. That's why Derek has fought for the RECOMPETE Act to ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their zip code or where they live.

Thank you,
