Dear neighbor:
Thanks in part to the American Rescue Act, our economy created 7 million jobs in 12 months, the most in U.S. history. Today’s January jobs report came in at 467,000 jobs, far exceeding expectations. We also had the fastest GDP growth in nearly 40 years. Wages are up. Growth is up. And the unemployment rate is at a low 4 percent. And this is just the beginning. The infrastructure law we passed will create millions more good-paying American jobs. Jobs that cannot be outsourced. This historic law is helping to rebuild crumbling roads and bridges, deliver jobs, expand access to broadband, get lead out of our water, and more.
House Democrats are spreading the word across the country. Since we passed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, we have held more than 1,000 events across the country to talk about the benefits of the new law. That’s 1,000 reminders that Democrats are delivering infrastructure – and 1,000 reminders that 200 House Republicans voted against roads, bridges, broadband, clean water and more for their communities.
To highlight how this new law will impact our district, I hosted a telephone town hall with constituents and a virtual roundtable with local elected officials State Senator Ben Allen and Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi. I also joined Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for a tour of the Ports of LA/Long Beach, where we learned how the infrastructure law is benefitting our ports, helping to keep goods moving and address supply chain issues to reduce inflationary pressures. In addition, my staff held a virtual information session to provide attendees from local government agencies and nonprofits with a better understanding of some of the competitive grants available through the law that address critical infrastructure needs.

COVID-19 Updates
The Rescue Act also funded our national effort to combat COVID. Fortunately, along with several other COVID metrics, hospitalizations are declining in Los Angeles County, signaling the County has likely passed its peak of Omicron transmission. In addition, the test positivity rate in schools has decreased in recent weeks. I’m also pleased that as of January 23rd, 7 million Los Angeles County residents are fully vaccinated, representing 72.4% of residents countywide. We must continue to use the tools we have, such as vaccinations and masks, to lower transmission.
The LA County Department of Public Health held a virtual town hall last week to update residents on the status of COVID in LA County. To watch the full town hall, please click here.
If you have symptoms, or believe you may have been exposed, please get tested for COVID-19. If your symptoms worsen, please call your health care provider. You can also call the public health hotline at (844) 804-0055 for any questions or concerns related to COVID.

And to all those celebrating – Happy Lunar New Year!
