Why did Evans accept money from Yass? Why would Yass, a far-right activist, go out of his way to fund a prominent Philadelphia Democrat? The answer lies in the multi-decade right-wing operation to defund and dismantle America’s public school system, of which Yass is a major player.
In 1998, the Philadelphia school district, the NAACP, and countless other coalitions of Philadelphians sued then Republican Governor of Pennsylvania Tom Ridge.
So what did Evans, the chair of the PA House Appropriations Committee at the time, do when he heard about this civil rights lawsuit? Evans turned his back on PA families and sided with the PA GOP laying the foundation for Philadelphia’s charter school system, the brainchild of arch-conservatives obsessed with defunding public education.
Evans' strategy is simple- feint to the left while running for office and then dart to the right once elected. It’s because of this that donors like Yass, dead-set on destroying our public school system, are writing big checks to a Democrat like Evans.
Alexandra refuses to make deals with the devil to fund her campaign.
John, let’s show Dwight Evans and his right-wing patrons that we’re ready for a fight: Can we count on you to chip in $25 or anything you can to strengthen our insurgent grassroots movement to unseat this Republican in sheep's clothing?
