John, you may
have seen this headline floating around the internet:

[ [link removed] ]Grist headline - Exxon Pledges to Reduce Carbon Emissions From
Operations to 'Net Zero'

At first glance, this might sound great — hasn’t the climate movement been
fighting to limit carbon emissions? But here’s the thing. This new plan
does nothing to limit Exxon’s largest contribution to the climate crisis —
making it nearly meaningless.^1 You can’t reduce carbon emissions while
burning fossil fuels.

We’re not falling for this latest instance of greenwashing — not when we
know that fossil fuel companies have been lying to the general public for
decades. And not when Big Oil spends millions of dollars every year to
lobby Congress against passing meaningful climate legislation.

It’s time that our government works for us, not the fossil fuel
industry. [ [link removed] ]John,
will you call on your members of Congress
to reject any and all campaign contributions from Big Oil?

Dirty fossil fuel money is corrupting our political system and blocking
bold action to address the climate crisis.

In exchange for the millions of dollars fossil fuel companies give in
campaign contributions and lobbying money, these companies aren’t held
accountable by our members of Congress for causing climate chaos.

Just this year, politicians bought off by Big Oil sank the Build Back
Better agenda — legislation that would have represented a historic
investment in our fight against the climate crisis.

If we're going to pass meaningful climate legislation, we can't have Exxon
behind the scenes tipping the scales; we must demand that our
representatives put OUR interests before Big Oil’s bottom line.

[ [link removed] ]John,
write to your members of Congress today
and demand they refuse campaign contributions from the fossil fuel
industry.

If we work together, there's no doubt we will put an end to the era of
fossil fuels. Thanks for taking action today.
