Fossil fuel companies are lining up to start over 30 new coal, oil and gas extraction projects in the UK. If we don’t speak up now the government could let them go ahead. In fact it quietly approved a new oil field in the North Sea last month [1].

New coal mines. More oil and gas extraction. This can't be the UK’s future. The science is clear that there must be no new fossil fuel extraction projects if we’re going to avoid climate catastrophe.

But we’re not powerless. Please sign this petition to tell the government you want no new coal, oil or gas projects in the UK?

With fossil fuel companies like Shell announcing massive profits while energy bills and fuel poverty soar, now's not the time to tie our future to this outdated industry. Let's say no to new coal oil and gas projects. And yes to more support for clean, renewable energy.

Giving coal, oil and gas companies a free pass like this is dangerous. If all these fossil fuel developments are approved, the combined lifetime greenhouse gas emissions would be almost 3 times the yearly emissions for the entire UK [2].

Last year, following an International Energy Agency report, its head said “If governments are serious about the climate crisis, there can be no new investments in oil, gas and coal, from now”.

The report was welcomed by COP26 President Alok Sharma. Yet every single project currently in the UK’s pipeline goes against its guidance.

After all the promises made at the climate talks, let’s push the Prime Minister to stand by his words, take responsibility and rule out new fossil fuel developments – for good.

People power stopped the fracking industry from taking hold in the UK. It stopped a coal mine in Northumberland. And if we make our voices heard again now, we can stop these fossil fuel giants from destroying the planet.
