EU Charter of Fundamental
Rights | EU-Canada Forum | Rovaniemi Arctic Spirit Conference

This week, there will be a conference to mark the 10th anniversary
of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, with the aim of looking at
how to improve the use and awareness of the Charter in bringing it to
life for citizens in the EU. Alongside this, representatives of the EU
and Canada will meet at the Civil Society Forum meeting, established
under the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
The Finnish Presidency will host a conference on the topic of climate
change in the Arctic, especially from the point of view of young
people.

European Commission
The Commission is co-organising the EU Charter of Fundamental
Rights this week, and sending participants to the EU-Canada Civil
Society Forum. Various commissioners will be giving key-note speeches
at these events, and alongside this, a college meeting will take
place.

European Council
This week, the Foreign Affairs Council will start with a discussion
on current affairs, and the defence ministers will discuss security
and defence issues with a particular focus on PESCO (Permanent
Structured Cooperation). The EU-Uzbekistan Cooperation Council will
discuss bilateral relations under the current partnership and
cooperation agreement. Furthermore, there will be an Economic and
Financial Affairs Council, as well as COREPERs I & II.

European Parliament
The hearings of the designated members of the von der Leyen
Commission will continue on 14 November 2019. These will be held by
the Committees on Foreign Affairs, on Transport and Tourism and on
Internal Market and Consumer Protection. Each commissioner-designate
will give an opening speech and then answer questions posed by
committee members. A plenary session will also resume on 13 November
in Brussels.
