Good morning,
I hope you saw our report – Lifetime Tax – which was published this week. Our landmark analysis has revealed that the average household will pay over £1.1 million in tax in their lifetime, meaning they would have to work for 18 years just to pay off the taxman.
We had a tremendous response in the media when it launched on Monday. It was covered across a number of news outlets. I’ve included a selection of some of the best below.
Politicians and journalists were also incredibly supportive of our work. One major radio programme producer said it was “Good as it gets. We're pumped ... more more MORE" and one senior backbench MP told us it was "Shocking. Makes me sick. No one else is saying this! Well done."
To accompany the report, we also launched an online calculator, where you can find out how much tax you will pay in your lifetime. Thousands of people have used it already this week to find out their own lifetime tax bill.
Lifetime tax builds on our analysis on the tax burden. The TPA has set the narrative on this issue: the phrase “tax burden is at a 70-year high” is now regularly used since we launched our research detailing it. Indeed, Labour leader Keir Starmer raised it at Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday.
Many of you have already donated this week to help support our work. Thank you – we couldn’t do any of this without people like you.
If you haven’t yet, I hope you will consider doing so. Ways to give are on our website, or you can call Ben or Sara on 020 7340 6020 and they’d be happy to help.
All the best,
John
