This Black History Month, we remember and celebrate the achievements of Black Americans throughout the history of our nation.
I am particularly mindful of the challenges that generations of civil rights activists had to overcome here on Long Island and across the country. Continuing the fight for justice and democracy is more important than ever. We must uphold the legacies of these activists by continuing to advocate for the causes they fight for, including civil rights, voting rights, and economic and racial justice.
Black History Month is a time to celebrate the lives and legacies of Black Americans and their vast contributions to this country, but it is also a reminder of how far we still must go to create a more tolerant and just society for all.
I am confident that together, we will continue to break down barriers and make progress to allow future generations to accomplish even more.
In solidarity,
Kathleen
