John,
The first celebration of Black History Month in the U.S. took place in 1970 at Kent State University. More than 50 years later, we continue to honor Black people who've contributed so much to our lives.
It is not enough to spend this month honoring Black historical figures while our country ignores the systemic racism continuing to impact and oppress Black communities and individuals on a daily basis.
We must commit every day to uplifting Black voices and fighting for equality.
The NAACP’s mission of equality and fairness is vital to ensuring that Black Americans can overcome centuries of systematic barriers that continue to oppress them.
Supporting organizations like NAACP is vital to dismantling racism and inequality. So please, if you are able, contribute to the NAACP today in honor of Black History Month.
