NEWSLETTER
Friend, 2022 began with an unsettling reminder of the urgency of our work to revitalize democracy: the one year anniversary of the January 6th insurrection. Nevertheless, our eyes are focused on the future: this midterm election year will be a critical opportunity for us to continue building our movement of servant leaders in politics. Read on below to learn about what we’ve been up to and meet the new candidates we’ve added to our slate.

Status Report: US Democracy

The insurrection on January 6, 2021, was a direct assault on our democratic process and a symptom of the broader crisis eroding democracy throughout our nation. But what does it mean for our democracy to be in crisis, why does it matter, and most importantly, what can we do about it?

Continue your service journey in politics

New Politics Leadership Academy is looking for people who have served this country before and want to do it again — except this time in the political arena. They just opened up their application for Spring 2022 programs. Political service might mean running for office, but could also be managing campaigns or working for public officials.

Candidate Spotlight

Last year, we endorsed Dr. Kermit Jones for Congress based on the strength of his character and his track record of servant leadership. The tragedy of 9/11 struck during Kermit's third year of medical school; wanting to do his part to serve his country, Kermit joined the U.S. Navy as a flight surgeon. He continued his service as a White House Fellow after leaving the military, and his resume speaks for itself. But like any first-time candidate, Kermit faced major challenges in this race due to running in a challenging district with an entrenched incumbent, and the daunting task of fundraising for a major campaign.

Now, that’s changing: after two successful fundraising quarters, and an eight point swing in Dr. Kermit's favor in redistricting, the incumbent Congressman decided to run in a different district rather than face Dr. Kermit. His campaign's base of support continues to grow as voters learn more about his record of service and his post-partisan vision of putting service to his community over his own self-interest.
