Dear John, I am writing from Yemen, where I lead UNHCR’s humanitarian efforts, to urge your immediate support. In all of my humanitarian work, I have rarely witnessed such devastation and vast needs. Refugees and families displaced by the conflict within Yemen are facing an extremely dire situation.
More than seven years of conflict in Yemen have destroyed its healthcare system. The population is very weak. Most eat only once a day — often only a little bread and tea. Women and children make up three-quarters of the four million people forcibly displaced.
Every week, I receive news about families who have lost everything when their house was bombed or shelled. My teams have only a few days to assist them before their survival is at stake. UNHCR and our partners are committed to stay and deliver in Yemen. But, we need your help.
We are urging the international community to commit more funding. And we also are counting on your generosity to help refugees and internally displaced people in Yemen and beyond. With your support, we can keep providing emergency shelter. We can keep providing cash so they can buy food and medicine, and more.
I know that those uprooted by conflict in Yemen can count on you. Please act as quickly and generously as you can. With your help, we shall save lives. |
