Last week we upped the ante in the House of Lords.
In an amendment to the Health and Care Bill, Lord Forsyth - who recently became a supporter of assisted dying
[[link removed]] after a conversation with his dying father - made the case for the Government
to make time for an Assisted Dying Bill. If passed, this would guarantee the parliamentary time needed for full and fair
debate on a new law. Lord Forsyth said:
“...no Private Members’ Bills reach the statute book without some support from
Government. It is not a neutral position that the Government maintains on this
matter of conscience; it is not neutral to persist in a position which means
that any Bill which is introduced is going to fail…”

The meeting on 10th February
[[link removed]] will serve as a preview for MPs to a hard-hitting episode of ITV’s Tonight
programme which will be dealing with the issue of assisted dying that evening.
We’ll be joined by contributors to the programme, including those with personal
experience of the failings of the current law. Karin Smyth MP, Chair of the All
Party Parliamentary Group for Choice at the End of Life will chair the
discussion.
Invite your MP today

current law.

In his speech last week, Lord Forsyth also highlighted that,
“Consistently opinion polls have shown that something like three out of four
people and more in our country would like to see legislation in this area. I
think it is quite wrong for people to try to deny Parliament the opportunity to
carry that out.”
We think so too. Please fire off a quick email today
[[link removed]] to make sure that your MP knows how important this is to you and attends what
is set to be a powerful event.
Thanks in advance,
Thomas Davies
