This Month's Feature: Constitutional Ambassadors Program The Constitutional Ambassadors Program (CAP) is a wonderful FREE opportunity to help your students deepen their constitutional understanding and develop civil dialogue skills, while taking part in an immersive experience, which includes seeing rare historical documents, priceless artifacts, interactive exhibits, and live theater that bring contemporary discussions about the Constitution to life. Black History Month at the Center During the month of February, the National Constitution Center will honor the achievements and rich heritage of African Americans, and the impact their stories have had on constitutional history. This is part of the National Constitution Center’s “All Together Now” series of freedom and equality themed programming and discounted admission through March. Join us for ongoing our onsite programs: Decoding the Document This workshop examines the Emancipation Proclamation and its historical legacy. The Road to Freedom: The Story of Slavery in America Program This interactive program explores the story of slavery in the United States through a constitutional lens, taking students on a journey from the Constitutional Convention to the start of the Civil War. We spotlight historic figures—like George Washington, Ona Judge, Angelina Grimke, Harriet Tubman, William Still, and Abraham Lincoln—and key events—such as the Missouri Compromise, the Dred Scott case, and the secession of the South. “Four Harriets” Program Students can explore the lives of four American women—Harriet Robinson Scott, Harriet Tubman, Harriet Jacobs, and Harriet Beecher Stowe—who confronted slavery through literature, lawsuits, and direct action in their efforts to free themselves and others from bondage. Students can also pick up a special Black History Month brochure designed to facilitate a self-guided tour in our exhibit spaces, focusing on rare artifacts. For Educators Constitutional Conversations: Building the Foundations for Dialogue and Deliberation in the Classroom Wednesday, February 9, 6:30 – 8 p.m. ET Deepen your constitutional knowledge and enhance your strategies for fostering civil dialogue around constitutional questions with this workshop series presented by the National Constitution Center and hosted by the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation. This series is scheduled for each Wednesday in February. Join us for some or all of the series. Learn more For Students Essay Contest Opportunity The Courts, Community, and Rule of Law Committee of the Judicial Council of the Third Circuit is hosting an essay contest for 5th and 6th grade classes focused on civics, citizenship, and the concept of the “Rule of Law.” The essay prompt is: “What does the Rule of Law mean to you and to our country?” Classes submitting the best essays in the six districts of the Third Circuit will be invited to one of the circuit's courthouses to present their essays during the first weeks of May, in celebration of Law Day. The essays and presentations will be evaluated based on focus, content development, organization, and style and prizes will be awarded. Class essays must be submitted by Friday, March 18, 2022.
