Friend,
This month is Black History Month, an opportunity to celebrate the many contributions and achievements of Black Americans throughout our nation’s history, history that is being made every day. Just last night, one of the biggest cities in my district added its first Black city council member!
As we uplift the Black community, we must also grapple with the inequity and racism that persists in our country to this very day.
This past year has seen the United States and especially white Americans have frank conversations about racism in an unprecedented and much-needed way, as members of the Black community face daily systemic barriers. I recognize as well that issues such as climate justice, education inequity, and soaring health care costs disproportionately affect Black communities on a daily basis.
As an elected official, and as a concerned citizen, I am committed to supporting our Black communities and finding solutions. If you, like me, want to take action to be a part of the solution, I encourage you to consider making a donation to the NAACP to support their fight for civil rights.
We cannot turn a blind eye to these issues. I will not rest until we see liberation for our Black communities. I hope you will join me in this effort.
In solidarity,
Susan
