Now that the breaking news about Justice Breyer’s retirement has sunk in,
let’s talk about our game plan. Taking over the Supreme Court has been the
ultimate goal of ultra-conservatives for decades -- and they’ve already
filled federal courts with far-right extremists. That’s why it’s so
important that President Biden nominate a progressive who will represent
those most affected by Supreme Court rulings and uphold Breyer’s legacy of
protecting constitutional rights.

With Biden reiterating his promise to nominate a Black woman to the
Supreme Court, we know that we’re going to have to fight against racist
attacks from Republicans -- and they’re already beginning, even before the
nominee has been announced. And once we have a nominee, it’s up to us to
ensure that Senate Democrats act quickly to confirm her without falling
for bad-faith delay tactics from the right.

The truth is, we’d anticipated the possibility that Breyer would retire
this year -- but when we planned our 2022 budget, we assumed that would
happen at the end of the SCOTUS term in June. That means the money we’re
spending on this fight right now (on things like call pages, web
resources, and outreach to local groups) is money we hadn’t planned to
spend until this summer.

So we need your help to ensure Senate Dems urge Biden to nominate a
progressive Black woman and then move with all deliberate speed to confirm
