Yesterday, Ecuador held its Annual Conference for Oil and Energy with the intention to attract even more global investment in oil and gas plans, many of which are slated in the Amazon rainforest. It was overshadowed by Indigenous communities protesting the event due to the rupture of the OCP pipeline, which spilled millions of gallons of crude in the rainforest.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in a social storm calling out the industry destroying the Amazon while claiming to “feel concern for humanity” and “have an intention to protect our planet.” Can we count on you to join us to maintain the pressure on the banks profiting from these oil spills?

DEMAND MAJOR BANKS EXIT AMAZON OIL AND GAS NOW!

The January 28 OCP pipeline rupture is the second major oil spill in less than two years, and yet no one has been held accountable, despite the many calls for justice made by the affected Indigenous communities and international allies. OCP has greatly downplayed the harm caused while the spill has continued polluting the Coca River, a water source for 60,000 people. Meanwhile, U.S. banks continue to invest and profit off destruction.

It's time for banks financing oil companies drilling in the Amazon like Citi, JPMorgan Chase, and UBS to understand that they are complicit in its destruction. Extraction of the Amazon is bad for business, the communities and lives impacted, and our planet!
