# [#]John —

February is Black History Month, a time when we pay tribute to the sacrifices and contributions of Black Americans and teach our children this history. It’s also a time for us to pause and look in the mirror and assess where we as a nation stand in our quest for equality and justice for all.

On the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's March on Washington, the late Congressman John Lewis, a colleague and dear friend said, “... those of us who are committed to the cause of justice need to pace ourselves because the struggle does not last for one day, one week, or one year, but it is the struggle of a lifetime, and each generation must do its part.”

I’m proud to continue this fight for equality and justice for all and to be an original cosponsor of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

We must all do our part and know our history.
