Happy Black History Month, friend!
This month is about celebrating the contributions Black Americans have made to our country that have enriched our culture, advanced our medicine, innovated new technology, strengthened our nation and its freedoms, and so much more.
Black trailblazers and activists have led the social movements that changed our country forever – the civil rights movements, labor movement, women's rights movement, the fight for LBGTQ+ equality, and the reproductive justice movement.
We've made important strides in the past years. Last year, we saw Vice President Kamala Harris sworn in as our first Black, first South Asian, and first woman Vice President, and now, I'm hopeful that we will soon see a Black woman on the highest court in the land.
Black History Month is not just about the past – it’s about acknowledging the work we have ahead to address the severe inequities in our country and work toward rooting out systemic racism in all of our institutions. This work must continue every single day, not just during Black History Month.
Together, we can stop voter suppression, fix our criminal justice system, ensure access to high-quality health care, and fight for reproductive justice. This Black History Month, I urge you to join me in recommitting to the fight for racial justice by adding your name >>
It's an honor to represent you,
Derek Kilmer
