Royal Mail update: Further to my update in my December Newsletter confirming that I had written once more to the Chief Executive of Royal Mail, I have since received a further reply and you can read about it here.
Esso pipeline update: Towards the end of January, Esso hosted a virtual meeting with the Turf Hill Residents’ Forum, local councillors, and those in Surrey Heath who will be affected by the upcoming works to install Esso’s replacement pipeline. A number of considerably detailed questions were raised, and I do hope that Esso’s responses to these queries and concerns were helpful. I am grateful that it was agreed that whilst works progress, myself, residents, councillors, and Esso will be working closely in order to make sure all works remain within the scope of Esso’s Site Specific Plan and residents don’t experience any unexpected changes.
Vacant properties: I very much appreciated the opportunity to chat with Cllr Trefor Hogg and Camberley resident Jerry Brownlee last month to discuss ways we can reduce the number of vacant properties and shops, both locally and nationally. My thanks to both for their helpful thoughts and ideas, and for coming to Windlesham to meet me.
Connaught Junior School visit: I had a lovely time visiting Connaught Junior School in Bagshot on 21 January. It was inspiring to meet such an impressive group of bright and highly motivated students, and I am so grateful to Head Teacher Siobhan McGann for showing me around.
M3/A322 Junction update: Following a further meeting with representatives from National Highways and local councillors Richard Tear and Rebecca Jennings-Evans, I was very encouraged to hear of the progress being made and you can read more about the meeting here.
South Western Railway timetable update: On 17 January, SWR introduced a new, consolidated timetable which may impact journey times for some Surrey Heath residents. You can find out more about the changes that have been made here.
Dexcom visit: Last week, I visited Dexcom - a global company, designing and producing Real Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring systems for people living with Type 1 diabetes. It was fascinating to hear how it works and to see a demonstration on Dexter the dog. I was also really grateful to have had the opportunity to learn more about the challenges around access to diabetes technology.
Telent Visit: Following the above Dexcom visit, I visited Telent, a leading technology company specialising in cyber security, networking and the management of the UK’s critical digital infrastructure. Since my last visit a few years ago, Telent has expanded its operations centre and development lab, and I thoroughly enjoyed taking a tour of the building and meeting the staff.

Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities News
Gigg Lane visit: Bury football ground will be brought back to life after fans were handed £1 million of government levelling up funding to buy the club’s historic Gigg Lane stadium. I was delighted to visit the stadium earlier this month so I could thank the Bury fan-led consortium who have taken control of the club. You can find out more about the funding here.
UK fishing industry boost: Fishing communities across the UK will benefit from better infrastructure, strengthened supply chains, new jobs and an investment in skills thanks to a £75 million boost for the sector announced by UK Government, you can read more here.
My letter to the residential property developer industry: Last month, I wrote to companies in the residential property developer industry about a new approach to building safety. You can find my letter here, and you can read my department's press release here.
Tax loophole on second homes closed: Owners of second homes who abuse a tax loophole by claiming their often-empty properties are holiday lets will be forced to pay under tough new measures. More details are available here.
My letter to the Construction Products Association: On 22 January, I wrote to cladding and insulation manufacturers to ask them to agree to a number of measures. You can read my letter here.
