The UK’s largest e-scooter trial has grown significantly over eight months to double the trial area, with six times the number of e-scooters now operating compared to launch.

Mayor Philip Glanville, Chair of London Councils’ Transport and Environment Committee, said: “London’s rented e-scooter network gives Londoners a safe and sustainable alternative to car journeys, helping to reduce carbon emissions across the capital.

“Crucially, the rented e-scooter trial is shaped by the boroughs and aims to support London’s diverse local communities by being inclusive of the travel needs of all Londoners, especially those on lower incomes and safeguards for vulnerable Londoners.

“Involved boroughs and London Councils are delighted to have played a vital part in reaching this milestone and look forward to seeing the trial continue to offer Londoners a new, greener way to get around our city.’

The Levelling up White Paper is due to be published today.

In the lead up to it, London Councils has been calling for, and hopes to see consideration given to: the unique role and needs of London, decision-making needs to be closer to the communities we serve, and  how regeneration funding disadvantages London.

As the Government's 'Plan B' restrictions were lifted and regulations relaxed across England from Thursday 27 January, Transport for London (TfL) is reminding customers that face coverings remain a requirement to be worn on its services.

TfL intends to retain the condition of carriage requiring all customers using any TfL service or station to wear a face covering unless they are exempt. Those who do not comply could be prevented from entering the network or asked to leave TfL services.
