John,

Every family has its story of service.

I grew up visiting my grandfather’s grave in Great Falls, placing flowers on his resting place and being told stories of his life growing up in Montana. He served as a naval radar operator in World War II. My other grandfather trained as an intelligence officer but ended up driving transport trucks in the Pacific Theater during the war.

For generations, Americans have marked this day as one of solemn remembrance of those who served our country and honor those who wear the uniform today. We have these veterans and their families to thank for our freedoms, comforts, and opportunities we enjoy today.

Today, we take pause to thank all the grandfathers, grandmothers, dads, moms, brothers, sisters and friends who have served this country to protect our values and democracy.

Please join me in honoring those who have served our state and nation with pride.
