John,

On this first day of February, I first want to thank each and every one of you who donated to my campaign and helped us finish out the month of January strong. Thanks to your generous support, we have had a promising start to the year and are on track for 2022.

Now, as we enter Black History Month, I am confident that this team will show up for progressive change once again.

Black History Month is dedicated to celebrating the contributions of Black Americans since before our nation’s founding. But Black history is not just in the past, John — it is always being written.

I can think of no better way to honor Black History Month than by appointing a Black woman to the Supreme Court of the United States. So, John, I’m asking you today to add your name to this petition to encourage President Biden to follow through on his promise to appoint our nation’s first-ever Black female Supreme Court Justice. Since the creation of the Supreme Court in 1789, America has had 115 justices, and 108 have been white men. Having a diverse Supreme Court is crucial for promoting a justice system that is fair, especially as it rules on topics and cases ranging from abortion to affirmative action.

In 2016, Justice Sotomayor perfectly stated why the Supreme Court will benefit from more diversity, saying, "A different perspective can permit you to more fully understand the arguments that are before you and help you articulate your position in a way that everyone will understand."

A justice who comes from and is committed to the complete inclusion and empowerment of our country’s growing communities of color — whose very presence will help correct the centuries-old gender and racial imbalance on the court — will be an enormous addition.

It is critically important that in light of Justice Breyer's departure, President Biden swiftly nominates a Black woman who can lead the Supreme Court and our country in a new direction. I can think of no better way to honor Black History Month.

If you agree, please sign this petition urging President Biden to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court. >> [[link removed]]
