Hi,
Since 1950, the world has produced 9 billion tons of plastic with only 9 percent recycled. Plastic ends up in our rivers, oceans, and waterways, and can take 400 years to break down. If we maintain current trends, the stream of plastic into the ocean is expected to triple by 2040, while current efforts to curb waste are expected to reduce volume by only 7 percent.
Current global initiatives to address the issue are fragmented and insufficient. We need world leaders to unite.

Last week, EARTHDAY.ORG broadcast a new installment of our Earth Day Live series, Turning the Tide on Plastic Pollution: Mobilizing Around a Global Plastics Treaty <[link removed]>.* We discussed the problem of plastic pollution and new global efforts, spearheaded by Peru and Rwanda, to create a binding Global Plastics Treaty. The resolution proposes a comprehensive and ambitious approach that addresses the full lifecycle of plastics.
We have the opportunity to turn the tide on plastic pollution — if world leaders act. Show your support for a global solution to a global problem.
Sign the petition and call for a Global Plastics Treaty. <[link removed]>
In solidarity,
