Hi John, The child hunger crisis is growing in the U.S. – while millions of kids aren’t. It was projected that 13 million children experienced hunger or malnutrition in 2021, potentially harming their physical, intellectual and emotional development and leaving them at-risk of facing long-term health issues. But not nearly enough federal investment has been dedicated to addressing this staggering need – especially in rural areas, where 90% of the counties with the highest percentage of child hunger are located. So leading up to this Valentine’s Day, we’re asking lawmakers to have a heart and invest in kids. John, Congress has the opportunity to strengthen and expand child nutrition programs through the Child Nutrition Reauthorization (CNR). Send a message to your members of Congress: we must pass a strong CNR to ensure we’re best serving the needs of hungry children across the U.S. This is our nation’s best chance to improve and expand federal nutrition programs. Kids need this change – it will extend support to more families in need year-round, provide an additional meal and snack for full-day child care, reduce burdensome paper-work requirements and permanently introduce flexible service models like home food delivery. With these updates, it’ll be easier for children to access nutrition assistance. When schools close for the summer, parents will have access to extra money to purchase nutritious foods. Children will have more opportunities to not just survive, but to thrive. Urge Congress to have a heart and pass a strong Child Nutrition Reauthorization to help kids across America grow up happy and well-nourished! |
