This week is a big moment for our Federal Reserve campaign, John.
The Senate Banking Committee will hold a nomination hearing for Biden's three picks for the Federal Reserve this Thursday, and we’re working around the clock to make sure that this entire slate of candidates – Lael Braninard, Lisa Cook, Sarah Bloom Raskin, and Philip Jefferson – are confirmed.
These candidates would bring much needed change to the Federal Reserve. But some Senate Republicans are already lobbying against the nominees, attacking not only their qualifications, but whether or not the Federal Reserve should even address issues of climate and systemic racism through financial regulations.
Going into this big week, we’re hoping to drive hundreds of calls to the Senate to help combat these attacks and secure a new slate of leaders to the Federal Reserve.
Sample Script
“Hi, my name is John and I am your constituent from Washington. I am calling to ask the Senator to confirm President Biden’s nominees to the Federal Reserve Board now.
We need experienced leaders like Sarah Bloom Raskin, Lisa Cook and Philip Jefferson at the Federal Reserve. These are people who care about families and communities like mine, take climate change seriously, and can tackle real issues we’re facing like racial and economic injustice.
President Biden made the right choice by picking these highly qualified nominees who will bring experience, diversity, and expertise to the Fed. Please confirm his Fed nominees immediately.”
Our pressure is working, and it’s only been possible thanks to grassroots supporters like you, John. Together, we succeeded in pressuring Biden to nominate our desired candidates and now, we have one more major hurdle to cross.
Through our movement’s pressure, we’ve successfully changed the narrative around the Federal Reserve and its role in promoting climate justice and equity. Just take a look:
With your help, we can secure these nominees and continue to elevate the responsibility of the Federal Reserve to mitigate climate risks.
With gratitude,
Team 350
