I was on the debate team in school when I discovered Peter Singer’s TED talk on “The Why and How of Effective Altruism.”
His philosophy clicked instantly with me.
I had just started an internship in the tech industry and was fortunate to be in a position where I could financially contribute to ending factory farming. I could see the progress organizations like The Humane League were making, and knew that was where my donations could make a major difference in this fight.
And now I’m taking the next step, partnering with other donors to multiply our collective impact for animals. Starting today, I’ll be matching all new monthly gifts made in February—for an entire year.

Battery cages are one of the greatest causes of suffering on factory farms today. Egg-laying hens are packed into these filthy wire cages, unable to spread their wings or engage in any natural behaviors. As many as 10 hens are crammed into a space the size of a filing cabinet drawer. The suffering is immense, and the need to end this brutal practice could not be more urgent.
In just a handful of years, this movement has reached a tipping point. Over 400 companies have committed to sourcing 100% cage-free eggs by 2026 or sooner. Now we need to keep the pressure on to ensure they follow through.
We’ve reached a place where strong pushes for animal welfare can drastically improve the lives of animals, more rapidly than ever. Knowing that together our contributions can help build momentum toward that goal is really empowering.
