Good morning, HFJ Community, I have big news!
The
Black Seed Fund<[link removed]> is our newest grantmaking fund, and it officially launches today. There’s a lot to share about this new grant opportunity—one that supports Black-led organizations that are moving us all closer towards liberation. I hope you will read on and share, because we want this news to spread.
The Black Seed Fund is part of our
Black Movement Ecosystem<[link removed]> work. It is a partnership with the Black Seed Network—a statewide network of Black organizers. Together, we offer the Black Seed Fund grant. The two-year, general operating investments offer maximum flexibility, allowing organizations to move resources where they are most needed, including towards organizational development and leadership capacity-building.
Our website says it all: "This Fund honors the revolutionary spirit, context, and times from which Black identities emerge." It is open to Black-led nonprofits and fiscally-sponsored groups that are based in Minnesota and serving Minnesota populations.
In a Headwaters first, the Black Seed Fund will accept
nominations<[link removed]> from people in the community. Interested organizations and their supporters can learn more about the nomination process on our
website<[link removed]>. You'll also want to keep an eye on our social media platforms for details. The nomination deadline is Friday, March 18 at 5 p.m. Central.
Now that you know we’re accepting nominations for Black Seed Fund grants, it’s time for you to nominate Black-led organizations that are growing power with Black people across Minnesota. If you have questions please connect with Program Officer, Black Movement Ecosystem
Duaba Unenra<[link removed]>.
In solidarity,
Maria De La Cruz JD, President
